Grattan Township Neighborhood Streets Micro-Surface 09/10/22 09/12/22 KCRC Detour

Strawser Construction has been contracted by the Kent County Road Commission to apply a pavement preservation treatment in the coming days to:

  • Bedaki Court
  • Bedaki Avenue
  • Cowan Lake Drive
  • Bay Drive

This road preservation is a one-part process that adds a thin layer of asphalt slurry on top of the existing asphalt surface. The durable, polymer-modified asphalt emulsion application restores the wearing surface of the roadway by sealing out moisture and helping to prevent oxidation that can cause deterioration and the need for more costly repairs.

Based on experience, this project’s success will depend on the cooperation and understanding of residents and business owners, so please observe the following:

Factors like weather, equipment issues or simultaneous projects can impact the timing of work. Therefore, an “exact” day-to-day schedule cannot be provided in advance. However, schedule updates are posted to strawserconstruction.com/resident-updates.

To alert residents and business owners of the approaching project, “No Parking” signs will be placed on the road approximately 12-48 hours in advance of the project’s start.

Generally, if it rains on the day we anticipate conducting work on your road, we will return the next day, weather permitting

Traffic Control during the application and curing process:

The individual road segment will be closed to through traffic but will remain open to residents and businesses within the project’s limits. Note that restricting through traffic helps to improve the safety of the work zone and overall quality of the improvement project. It also increases productivity, thus shortening the length of time needed to complete the project.

Local traffic may need to use parallel local streets for some destinations or use alternate driveways to access businesses.

To complete the project, the road must be free of all parked cars between 7AM and 8PM.  Cars parked on the street will have to be relocated.

If you require access in or out of your driveway during paving operations, please consult with an on-site contractor or contact Strawser Construction at frienda@colas.com, and we will work to accommodate you.

Flagging personnel will provide assistance to help traffic flow more smoothly and assist motorists approaching the project limits.

For the duration of the project:

Turn off all water sprinklers.

Keep the street free of all trash, recycle carts and bags.

Typically, once applied, the treatment takes two-to-three hours to cure.

After the project is completed and the street reopens to traffic, drive slowly over the new pavement surface, and do not spin your tires.

Understand that the new layer of asphalt is designed for traffic to serve as the final rolling mechanism. Therefore, traffic on your street will help to smooth out the surface over the coming weeks.
